Man arrested for trying to sell San Rock Art

A 48-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man was arrested for trying to promote a San rock artwork on social media.

The person contravened the Nationwide Heritage Assets Act 25 of 1999.

The operation was carried out by the Hawks Critical Organised Crime Investigation crew in Port Shepstone along with the K9 Unit.

‘The Hawks crew reacted on info obtained a couple of suspect who had marketed a San rock artwork on the market on social media within the South Coast space. A search warrant was executed on the premises at Montague highway in Sea Park which led to the arrest of the suspect in possession of the San rock artwork on Thursday, 18 February 2021,’ stated the South African Police Service (SAPS) in a statement.

The person was on account of seem within the Port Sheptone Justice of the Peace’s Court docket on Monday, February 22 however his trial was delayed. This was achieved in order that archeologists can conduct an expert report and establish the origin of the San rock art, stated police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase.
